The asatsuyu cultivar, the "natural gyokuro", has been praised for its natural sweetness and umami flavor. Kirishima Tea Farm's owners, the Hayashi family, grow this tea organically, and the original product is certified according to JAS (Japan Agriculture System) standards, recognized as equivalent to organic standards in US by the USDA, in EU, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Deep steamed to bring out the bright green color and rich flavor of the leaf, this spring harvested sencha hails from the Kirishima region of Kagoshima Prefecture, deep in the southernmost part of Japan's main islands, and a growing force in the tea industry in Japan for its high quality leaves.
